President Rahmon awarded UN University for Peace Certificate of Recognition

He is awarded for "significant contribution to establishing peace, developing regional cooperation, and strengthening mutual understanding between peoples."

On Monday May 25, a ceremony was held at the Palace of the Nation where President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the United Nations University for Peace (UPEACE).

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the prestigious distinction was presented in recognition of the president’s contribution to peacebuilding, regional cooperation, and efforts to strengthen friendship and mutual understanding among peoples.

Recognition of regional diplomacy and agreements

The award reportedly highlights several key achievements, including the signing of a historic agreement on the delimitation and demarcation of state borders between Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, as well as the adoption of the Khujand Declaration on Eternal Friendship.

The recognition also reflects Tajikistan’s international initiatives in the areas of water resources and climate change.

Focus on water, climate, and global initiatives

Particular emphasis was placed on President Rahmon’s role in advancing the International Decade for Action, “Water for Sustainable Development, 2018–2028,” as well as efforts to promote the International Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences and the proposed “Decade of Strengthening Peace for Future Generations.”

Award approval and presentation

The award was approved by Rector of the United Nations University for Peace, Dr. Francisco Rojas Aravena, on May 19, 2026. It was presented to President Rahmon by the University’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador David Fernández Puyana.

The certificate is awarded to individuals and states recognized for exceptional contributions to peacebuilding and conflict resolution.

International recognition

The ceremony underscored Tajikistan’s role in regional stability and its engagement in global peace, water, and climate initiatives, highlighting the country’s growing involvement in international diplomacy frameworks.
