The police of Dushanbe identified 28 cases of unauthorized price increases on food products in markets and shopping centers of the capital in one day. Inspections are being conducted ahead of the Eid al-Adha (Idi Qurbon) holiday.

According to the Dushanbe Police Department, despite warnings, some entrepreneurs continued to raise prices. Administrative protocols were drawn up against the violators under Article 555 of the Administrative Code of Tajikistan, and fines were imposed.

The Dushanbe Police Department again urged sellers not to allow unauthorized price increases.

Earlier, the Dushanbe police called on entrepreneurs, heads of shopping centers, and merchants running shops at the city’s bazaars not to allow unauthorized price increases and to comply with legal requirements. Otherwise, administrative protocols will be drawn up against violators under Articles 479, 555, 627, and 633 of the Administrative Code of Tajikistan.

The department also reported the establishment of working groups to control prices on essential goods ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday. Police officers conducted raids in markets and shopping centers of the capital, as well as explanatory talks with entrepreneurs, sellers, and citizens.

Every year before Eid al-Fitr (Idi Ramazon) and Eid al-Adha holidays, some entrepreneurs and sellers, taking advantage of increased demand, unreasonably raise prices on goods.

Tojikstandart (the Agency for Standardization, Metrology, Certification and Trade Inspection under the Government of Tajikistan) previously also requested sellers and entrepreneurs in Dushanbe to refrain from unreasonable price increases on food products, especially meat and meat products, ahead of the Eid al-Adha holiday.
