Prices in Tajikistan rise almost 2% in January-April: apples, fuel, and utilities become particularly more expensive

In April, inflation was 0.6%: food products became more expensive, non-food products increased in price comparatively less, and tariffs for paid services remained unchanged.

Consumer prices in Tajikistan in April 2026 increased by 0.6% compared to March, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan. 

The most significant increase over the month was in prices of foodstuffs — by 0.9%. Non-foodstuffs last month rose 0.5%, while prices and rates for services rendered to the population remained unchanged in April. 

Meanwhile, over the first four months of this year, the overall growth in consumer prices has reportedly amounted to 1.9%. Foodstuffs over this four-month period have risen 2.4%, non-foodstuffs have increased by 0.5% over the reporting period, and prices and rates for services rendered to the population have increased by 3.4 percent in January-April this this year.  

Among foodstuffs in April, the most noticeable price increases were for apples — by 16.1%, carrots — by 10.4%, and sugar — by 9.4%. Fruits overall increased by 4.8%, potatoes by 4.7%, and bread by 2.7%.

Prices also rose for non-alcoholic drinks — by 1.1%, oils and fats — by 1%, buckwheat and minced meat — by 0.7% each. Beef increased by 0.4%, and flour by 0.2%.

At the same time, some foodstuffs became cheaper last month. The most significant decrease was in cucumber prices — by 9.5%. Eggs became cheaper by 3.9%, onions by 3.4%, rice by 2.1%, milk by 1.9%, and chicken meat by 1.2%.

Apples show the most significant price increase

Over the first four months of this year, the most noticeable growth among products has been in fruits — by 17.5%. Apples, in particular, have risen by 49.1%. Grapes increased by 17.5%, lemons by 14%, and bananas by 2.3%.

Vegetables have increased by 4.7% since the beginning of the year. In this group, the most significant price increases were for tomatoes — by 13.6%, cabbage — by 12.4%, potatoes — by 10.6%, carrots — by 5.9%, and onions — by 3.3%.

Bread has increased by 6% since the beginning of the year, oils and fats by 3.3%, flour by 2.8%, and non-alcoholic drinks by 2.7%.

Meanwhile, prices have decreased for cucumbers — by 9.2%, rice — by 8%, eggs — by 6.9%, milk and beef — by 1.8% each, chicken meat — by 1.1%, and cereals — by 0.4%.

Fuel and utilities — main drivers of growth

In April, prices for non-foodstuffs increased by 0.5%. The main contribution was from the rise in prices for fuel and lubricants — by 6.8%. Diesel fuel increased by 12.4% over the month, gasoline by 10.3%, and liquefied gas by 4%.

Clothing and footwear last month increased by 0.3%. At the same time, prices for furniture, household items, and goods decreased by 0.1%.

In January-April this year, fuel and lubricants have reportedly increased by 8%. This includes liquefied gas, which rose 13.5%, gasoline increased by 4%, and diesel fuel by 1.7%. Clothing and footwear increased by 0.6%, furniture and household goods by 0.7%. On the contrary, construction materials decreased by 0.7%.

Prices and rates for services rendered to the population last month remained unchanged, but over the first four months of this year, they have reportedly increased by 3.4%. The main reason was the increase in tariffs for utilities — by 10.7%. Hotel services have increased by 1.5%, transport services by 0.2%. Airfares increased by 0.9%, with the cost of a ticket from Dushanbe to Moscow rising by 1.5%.
