DUSHANBE, October 2, 2009, Asia-Plus — Customs officers warded off four drug-trafficking attempts at the Dushanbe airport on September 29-30, seizing a total of some five kilograms of heroin, according to the Customs Service press service.
Two passengers on the flight Dushanbe-Moscow – the 50-year-old Abdulaziz Idrisov and the 30-year-old Khudoyberdi Sattorov – were detained on September 29 on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking. Some two kilograms of heroin were found in cotton-wool linings of their chapans (a coat worn by men in Central Asia over clothes).
The same day, Russian national, Ms. Yaroslavna Voronina, was detained during inspection of passengers on the flight Dushanbe-St. Petersburg. Some two kilograms of heroin were confiscated from her.
On September 30, Ms. Mastoura Jobirova, a passenger on the flight Dushanbe-Orienburg (Russia) was detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking. She was trying to transport some kilogram of heroin in children’s shoes to Russia, the source said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug couriers and an investigation is under way.
