Media development specialist helps creation of alternative print media distribution system in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, September 29, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A practical training on creation of an alternative print media distribution system in Tajikistan was conducted at Tajik Journalists’ Union in Dushanbe on September 28.

The training was conducted by the director of the Center for Investigative Reporting (CIN) in Bosnia-Herzegovina (BiH), Mr. Drew Sullivan and its participants included heads of a number of Dushanbe-based newspapers and magazines.

During the training, Mr. Sullivan presented his program of distribution of printed output.  This program provides for establishment of corporate organization for distribution of newspapers and magazines as well as creation of the network of news stalls and licensing of newspaper distributors.

According to Dew Sullivan, these measures could create conditions for foundation of daily newspapers in Tajikistan.

Drew Sullivan is a journalist and media development specialist based in Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Washington DC.  He is the founder of the Journalism Development group LLC, a leading innovator in media development around the world.  JDG designed, built and managed the Center for Investigative Reporting in Bosnia-Herzegovina is a leading independent, regional investigative news organization.

The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIN) is a non-profit investigative center that writes about problems in BiH, especially corruption and organized crime.  It is based in Sarajevo but covers much of the Balkan region.  CIN was formed in 2004 under a grant by USAID and is funded by various government and non-profit sources as well as some commercial revenues.
