KULOB, September 28, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Five cases of drafting sick persons into the armed forces have been reported during the spring conscription campaign in Khatlon’s Kulob zone, and therefore, to avoid such cases during the autumn conscription campaign the Kulob military prosecutor’s office is inspecting the process of the conscription campaign in the area, Asia-Plus has learned from the source at the Kulob military prosecutor’s office.

According to him, three such cases have been reported during the autumn conscription campaign in Farkhor, Hamadoni and Dangahra district, where young men suffering from enuresis and brucellosis have been conscripted.  “Members of the military medical commissions in these districts being to blame for this will be punished,” the source noted.

We will recall that this year, President Emomali Rahmon signed a decree on drafting young Tajiks into the country’s armed forces from October through November 2009 on September 10, 2009.  The draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old, who are not members of the armed forces reserve. The same decree provides for the retirement from active duty of soldiers and sergeants whose service under conscription is over.
