DUSHANBE, September 25, Asia-Plus — All categories of farms have produced more than one million tons of grains, with 70 percent of them being wheat, to this date, Saidmurod Bahriddinov, the head of the crop sector directorate within the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, it is the largest grain harvest ever gathered in the country. “Average gain yields are much higher compared to last year,” said Bahriddinov, “Last year, average grain yields were little more than 1.8 tons of grains per one hectare, while this year, farmers have reported harvests of 2.7 tons/ha.” The MoA official noted that farmers had had such good grain harvest because priority had been given to winter crops that had higher productivity.
We will recall that Tajik farmers have planted cereals on an area of 253,000 hectares this year. Last year, they planted grains on 273,403 hectares and produced 931,204 tons of cereals, including 649,300 tons.
Local experts say that Tajikistan’s annual requirements in wheat are now 1.2 million tons.
