DUSHANBE, August 21, 2009, Asia-Plus — Over the first seven months of this year, Dushanbe has consumed 1.3117 billion kWh of electricity, which is 33 percent more than in the same period of last year, according to Jamshed Mansourov, Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe.
“In the winter period, the city residents mainly use electrical power to heat their dwellings,” said the deputy mayor, “In 2008, some 53 percent of the overall volumes of electrical power supplied to the city was used by residential consumers, federally funded organizations used some 14 percent and some 33 percent of electrical power was used by industrial and commercial enterprises.”
He further added that the past winter had shown to what an extent the city is vulnerable to electricity shortages and its electric systems are not properly prepared for saving regime of operation.
