DUSHANBE, August 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — In a time of globalization and integration, the CIS states are characterized by a certain approximation of cultures and increase in internationality communication, Tajik Deputy Prime Minister, Ms. Ruqiya Qurbonova, remarked, while addressing the 24th session of the CIS council for cultural cooperation in Dushanbe on August 11.

According to her, times have changed but good traditions, promoting closer relations between the peoples, have continued to this day.

“We realize well moral and ethical responsibility of intelligentsia for further development of culture and education in this contradictory and difficult time, when ideological and cultural priorities are indistinct,” said she, “Today, it is necessary to develop new values that would meet requirements and norms of human civilization.”

Ms. Qurbonova noted that the governments of the CIS states have been taking efforts to expand cultural cooperation within the CIS area.

The CIS culture ministers’ session in Dushanbe discussed the draft concept of cultural cooperation between the CIS states, the draft concept of development of education in the fields of culture and art, implementation of the plan of main events in the field of humanitarian cooperation between the CIS member nations for 2009-2010, as well as improvement and harmonization of laws on preservation of cultural relics, the CIS library development project, etc.

In the meantime, the second consultative meeting of culture ministers from member nations of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) has also bee held in Dushanbe today.  Five issues have been tabled to the session’s agenda.  The meeting participants have discussed the draft main directions of cooperation between the EAEC member nations in the field of culture.
