Kulob residents gets jail term of 24 years for killing his nephew

KULOB, July 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A 21-year old resident of the city of Kulob Sayfullo Oymahmadov has got a long jail term for killing his 17-year-old nephew Saidibrohim Majidov.

The Kulob city court sentenced Sayfullo Oymahmadov to 24 years in prison on July 21.  The sentence followed his conviction on the charge of killing.  He will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Safar Shodiyev, a senior investigator with the Kulob prosecutor’s office, said that criminal proceedings against Oymahmadov were instituted in April this year.

“On April 20, a powerful mudflow that occurred in the Shuroobod district brought the body of unknown young man to the Kulob district,” said the prosecutor, “Later, he was indentified as the 17-year-old resident of the village of Shukrul (phonetically spelled) in the Shuroobod district Saidibrohim Majidov.”

“The preliminary investigation has established that Sayfullo Oymahmadov stabbed Saidibrohim Majidov to death on March 4 following quarrel,” Shodiyev said.
