KHOROG, July 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Operation of the hydroelectric power plant (HPP) Pamir-1 was suspended yesterday for a week due to the planned examination of its diversion (power) canal, Asia-Plus has learned from Abdullo Amonbekov, a spokesman for the Pamir Energy Company (PamirEnergy).

“PamirEnergy takes this measure every year to ensure regular work of the plant during the autumn-winter period,” he said, noting that electricity to consumers is now supplied from the Khorog HPP.

“Since the Khorog HPP’s capacity is only some 9,000 kW, consumers will have electricity 18 hours per day,” said the spokesman, “We will cut off electricity supplies for three hours in the morning and for three hours in the evening.”

According to him, the preventive work is scheduled to be finished on July 27.
