DUSHANBE, July 7, 2009, Asia-Plus — Officers from the counternarcotics agency have shut down a drug channel, through which drug traffickers were transporting heroin to the Russian Federation, the Drug Control Agency (DCA) press service reported on July 7.

An operation carried out by the drug control officers in Dushanbe on July 4 led to the arrest of a drug trafficker (his name is not disclosed in the interest of investigation), the press service said.  Four packages containing some 4 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from him.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug trafficker under the provision of Article 200, Par 4 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, and use of drugs.

DCA is currently carrying out operation to determine other persons involved in that crime.
