KHOROG, July 7, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Another tourist company has been registered in Gorno Badakhshan, Asia-Plus has learned from Nekruz Sarbalandov, an external ties coordinator with the School of Continuing Professional Education (SCPE) School, Khorog Campus of University of Central Asia (UCA).

According to him, the tourist company, Pamir Eco Travels Network, has been founded by a group of alumni of the SCPE training course, Mountain Tourism Tour Operators.

The company is dedicated to promote development of eco tourism, establishment of centers for serving tourists, collection and spread of information about opportunities of eco tourism in Gorno Badakhshan, as well as to conduct training seminars on eco tourism and carry out various humanitarian missions.

Ms. Roila Nazarkhudoyeva, a communications officer at the Pamir Eco-Cultural Tourism Association, Spectra, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that seven tourist companies currently operate in the region.

“Last year, they served more than 400 foreign tourists,” said Nazarkhudoyeva, “This year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Gorno Badakhshan has decreased and this situation has probably resulted from the ongoing global financial crisis.”
