DUSHANBE, June 6, 2009, Asia-Plus –  Kyrgyzstan has begun tightening control of its common border with Tajikistan, the news agency AKIpress reported.

On June 4, several groups of the Kyrgyz border services’ special unit, Boru (Wolf), were sent to the Alay district in Osh region and Batken region, the news agency said, noting that the border special unit servicemen would stay on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border until further notice.

AKIpress quoted the deputy chief of Kyrgyzstan’s border service, Cholponbek Turusbekov, as saying that in connection with the situation that had emerged on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border, the country’s border service would take additional operational and security-strengthening measures in southern regions.

“The Kyrgyz border troops have been put on alert, and not only on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border but also on the Kyrgyz-Tajik border,” said Turusbekov, “We are currently analyzing information received from various sources as well as information that are appearing on Internet and we are trying to take measures.”
