DUSHANBE, June 6, 2009, Asia-Plus — On Friday June 5, Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi and Mr. Yoshihiro Nakayama, Charge d’Affaiares, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, exchanged notes refereeing to the project for allotting scholarships for training of personnel for Tajikistan under the Grassroots Grant Program of the Government of Japan, according to the MFA information department.
Zarifi and Nakayama also signed a grant agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the project for allotting scholarships for training of personnel for Tajikistan under the Grassroots Grant Program of the Government of Japan.
Both documents are interrelated because under Japanese legislation assistance provided by the Government of Japan to foreign countries is implemented through JICA, the MFA information department said.
Under the mentioned documents the Government of Japan provides a grant of 135 million yens aimed at providing Tajik nationals with an opportunity to study at Japanese universities. The scholarship allotment program is designed for four year — from 2009 to 2012. Candidates for the program are selected from among employees of the ministries of foreign affairs, finance as well as economic development and trade having certain length of service.
The program offers two kinds of courses: international relations and formation of institutional systems for transition to market economy and economic development.
