DUSHANBE, June 6, 2009, Asia-Plus  — On June 4, the British Ambassador, Mr. Trevor Moore, accompanied by a team from his Embassy, paid a one-day working visit to Norak district

According to the British Embassy in Dushanbe, the aim of the visit was to observe the operation of Norak hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and to familiarize himself with the district as a whole.

During his stay in Norak, Ambassador Moore met with Norak Mayor Mahmadullo Yorov.  The mayor briefed him on developments and the achievements of the city. Mr. Yorov also accompanied the Ambassador to Norak Dam and gave a short history of the dam and described its importance to the Tajik Economy.  The Ambassador expressed his sympathy for the landslide that destroyed part of the district’s main road caused by recent heavy rainfall.

The Ambassador then went to see Norak Hydroelectric Station and met with the head of the power station Mr. Sharifhon Samiyev.  Mr. Samiyev briefed him about the history and current work of the Power Station and led the team around the station.

The Ambassador’s one-day visit ended with a call on the city’s industrial enterprise, which produces different spare parts for the hydroelectric stations of the country.
