DUSHANBE, May 19, 2009, Asia-Plus — A roundtable meeting formally titled “Labor Migration from Tajikistan to the Samara Region” will be held in the city of Samara, Russia on May 21.
According to the migrations service within the Ministry of Interior (MoI) of Tajikistan, the main objective of the meeting is to develop the strategy of cooperation in solving problems of the labor migration from Tajikistan to the Samara region by efforts of public associations, media, business structures in partnership with the key government bodies of both countries.
The meeting participants include senior representatives from the Tajik MoI migration service, Russian Federal Migration Service (FMS), Samara governor’s office, Samara regional legislature, the ombudsman office for the Sara region, media, as well as specialists in the field of labor migration.
They will discuss issues related to the present stay of labor migrants from Tajikistan in Samara, working out concerted strategy of civilized and mutually beneficial migration process as well as strengthening intersectoral and interstate cooperation in the field of labor migration between the government bodies and public associations of Tajikistan and the Samara region.
Representatives from the Tajik MoI migration service departed for Samara yesterday and during their stay there, they plan to hold a number of meetings with Tajik labor migrants working in Samara. They are also scheduled to hold talks with senior representatives from the Samara regional government and Samara employers.
The event has been initiated by the Tajik MoI migrations service in cooperation with the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF-Tajikistan), the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Mission in Tajikistan and the Country Office of the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) in Tajikistan.
