DUSHANBE, January 19, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajik law enforcement have broken up a robbery gang in Dushanbe.
Minister of Interiors Abdurahim Qahhorov told reporters today that that the ringleader – the 36-year-old resident of Dushanbe Ramesh Yorov – was detained on January 9.
According to him, police found the trace of criminals while investigating the case of an armed attack on a Chinese national in December last year.
We will recall that the Ministry of Interior (MoI) reported on January 10 that two residents of Roudaki district – Ismatullo Bobomurodov and Akram Sharipov – robbed a Chinese national Wan Bin on December 13, seizing a large amount of money. The robbers were detained on December 22.
The ringleader Ramesh Yorov, who is the head of the Dushanbe-based private firm, Manzar, was detained on January 9. When searching Yorov’s office, the police officers found one Makarov pistol, several hunting guns, 4 portable radio transmitters, arbalest, one bayonet and 1,400 bullets of different caliber.
The minister noted today that eight members of that robbery gang have been detained to date and the preliminary investigation has established that they have committed at least ten armed robberies in recent years.
“In 2004, members of this gang robbed one of tour operators in Dushanbe, seizing more than 400,000 U.S. dollars,” said Qahhorov, “The company employees were so intimidated that they even did not apply to police until Yorov was arrested.”
