DUSHANBE, February 22, 2011, Asia-Plus — India plans to help Tajikistan develop tea cultivation.
Issues related to attracting Indian investments for development of tea cultivation in Tajikistan were discussed here on Monday (February 21) at a meeting of Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) head Said Sharif with Indian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tajikistan, Asith Kumar Bhattacharjee, according to the CCI press service.
Indian diplomat noted that he intended to assist with getting India investors involved in development of tea cultivation in Tajikistan.
In the course of the talks, the two also discussed bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and India in light and processing industries, joint participation in various events such as exhibitions, fairs, business forums and so forth, the source said.
Tajik CCI head, in particular, noted that Tajikistan was interested in further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation with India and an air route connecting Dushanbe and New Delhi would promote that. He outlined sectors like light and processing industries, construction, and tourism as areas that could drive the bilateral trade between the two countries.
The sides agreed that Tajik CCI head would visit India in the second half of April this year to hold meetings with Indian businesspeople to make them better informed of opportunities for investment in Tajikistan, the source added.
