US Ambassador visits IRPT activist Hikmatullo Saifullozoda who was attacked on February 7

DUSHANBE, March 2, 2011, Asia-Plus – | On Tuesday the US Ambassador to Tajikistan Mr. Kenneth Gross visited Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda, the press secretary of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan and editor of its newspaper Najot.

According to the IRPT HQ, Mr. Ken Gross asked Mr. Saifullozoda about his health condition after the February 7 assault and asked about Mr. Saifullozoda’s future political plans and wished him speedy recovery and return to his duties.

“Mr. Saifullozoda told the American diplomat that he feels well and is planning to return to his duties in the nearest time. He also stressed that not a single threat can affect his political views or activity,” IRPT’s HQ has said.

According to the source, editor of the party’s newspaper thanked international organizations and foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Tajikistan for condemning the assault.

Mr. Saifullozoda, the press secretary of the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan and editor of its newspaper, was attacked on February 7 not far from his own house in Dushanbe. He spent nearly one month in hospital.

Doctors say Mr. Saifullozoda got severe head injury. According to Mr. Saifullozoda, on February 21st the Ministry of Interior has launched a criminal case to investigate the incident.
