ICAO inspects Dushanbe airport

DUSHANBE, March 7, 2011, Asia-Plus  — The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has inspected Tajikistan’s civil aviation sector and published the preliminary findings, Mahmadyusuf Shodiyev, a spokesman for Dushanbe International Airport, told Asia-Plus Monday afternoon.

According to him, the ICAO specialists, in particular, inspected the Dushanbe airport, which is one of key sub-divisions of the country’s civil aviation sector.

“They noted that the Dushanbe airport functions in compliance with international requirements,” said Shodiyev.  “The ICAO experts said that a number shortcomings that were revealed in the airport’s work during the 2006 inspection were removed and the airport now meets international parameters.”

The inspection findings will be published in the near future, the spokesman added.

ICAO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations, which codifies the principles and techniques of international air navigation and fosters the planning and development of international air transport to ensure safe and orderly growth.  Its headquarters are located in the Quartier International of Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The ICAO Council adopts standards and recommended practices concerning air navigation, its infrastructure, Flight inspection, prevention of unlawful interference, and facilitation of border-crossing procedures for international civil aviation.  In addition, the ICAO defines the protocols for air accident investigation followed by transport safety authorities in countries signatory to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, commonly known as the Chicago Convention.
