DUSHANBE, April 4, 2011, Asia-Plus — The Islamic Revival Party (IRP) leader Muhiddin Kabiri has met with representatives of Tajik youth, the IRP press service reports.
Held at IRP’s headquarters in Dushanbe on April 2, the meeting was dedicated to the subjects of Navrouz in Islam and terrorism.
Speaking at the meeting, the IRP leader noted that though Navrouz was not a common holyday amongst Muslims, “our religion has never condemned celebration of Navrouz” and stressed that some traditions of that festival in the countries of the region were now perceived as Islamic traditions.
On the subject of terrorism, the IRP leader noted that Islam has never been the religion of terrorists and extremists. He also advised some politicians who claimed to the contrary to seek signs of extremism and terrorism in actions of the Christian preacher Terry Jones, who supervised the burning of a Koran in March at his Florida church.
