QURGHON TEPPA, June 7, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A court in the city of Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province has imposed administrative action on two local women who illegally organized religious classes for girls.

Hasan Muminov, a judge with the Qurghon Teppa city court, says Zuhro Muhammadjonova and Mavlouda Mavlonova illegally ran two groups on Islamic teaching for 7 to 10 girls in their houses.

“Under Article 474 of the country’s administrative code, the women were ordered to pay a fine of 10 indexes (one index is set at 35.00 somoni) each for breaking the law on religious associations,” the judge noted.

According to him, the court is currently considering similar case instituted against another woman from Qurghon Teppa.

39 cases of illegal religious teaching have reportedly been revealed in Khatlon province since the beginning of this year.
