KHUJAND, June 28, 2011, Asia-Plus — Installation of the second transformer at the Sughd-500 substation in Ghonchi district has improved electricity supplies in northern Tajikistan, Mumin Toshmatov, the deputy head of Barqi Tojik’s branch in Sughd, says.

An official introduction of the second transformer into operation took place on June 26.  The northern Sughd province now receives more than 13 million kWh of electricity per day.  Before that, when only one transformer with capacity of only 10 million kWh of electrical power per day operated, the province was receiving just little more than 12 million kWh of electricity per day.

Installation of the second transformer has increased the substation capacity to 27 million kWh of electricity per day, Toshmatov added.

According to specialists from Barqi Tojik, current Sughd’s daily requirements in electricity are up to 14 million kWh.
