Drug police seize more than 5 kilos of narcotics yesterday

DUSHANBE, December 25, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Officers from the Interior Ministry directorate for combating drug trafficking (drug police) sized more than five kilograms of narcotics yesterday, according to Interior Ministry press service.

An operation carried out by the drug police officers in Tursunzoda led to the arrest of two local residents Suhrob Safarov and Sayod Ahamdov.  2 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from the,  

Besides, some 2.6 kilograms of raw opium were confiscated by officers from Khatlon drug police department directorate from Hamadoni resident Fayzinisso Ghoziyeva.  The preliminary investigation has established that she bought the opium from Hamadoni district Hotam Shamsiddinov.  When searching his house, the drug police officers found another 620 grams of raw opium, the press service said.  

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against these persons on drug charges and an investigation is under way.
