Japan supports education sector in Muminobod district

DUSHANBE, September 27, 2011, Asia-Plus  — On Tuesday September 27, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Japan’s Ambassador, to Tajikistan and Mr. Tohir Amirshoyev, First Deputy Chairman of Muminobod district, Khatlon province signed a grant contract for “The Project for Rehabilitation of Secondary School No. 30 in Leningrad Settlement, Muminobod District.”

According to the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) allocates US$111,476 to Muminobod district.

Secondary school No. 30 in the Leningrad settlement of Muminobod district was constructed in 1978.  The sport hall, the meeting hall and the canteen have been out of use for many years due to damaged walls and ceilings, crumbled floors and leaks from broken walls.  The condition has been severely affected the healthy development of students in the area.

In the framework of the project, the meeting hall, the canteen and the sport hall will be rehabilitated.  After the project implementation, more than 1,000 students from secondary school No. 30 and surrounding schools will be able to have access to physical education classes in the sport hall, the sanitary canteen as well as various events in the meeting hall.  The project will enhance educational level and health condition of students in Muminobod district.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 19.9 million for 272 projects in the Republic of Tajikistan.
