DUSHANBE, October 1, 2011, Asia-Plus — The remainder of deposits at Tajik banks rose 23.1 percent in a year to September 1, 2011, reaching 3.9 billion somoni (equivalent to more than 820 million U.S. dollars), according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).

The volume of deposits in national currency amounted to 1.4 billion somoni and the volume of deposits in foreign currency amounted to 2.5 billion somoni.

Deposits of legal entities amount for 46.3 percent (1.8 billion somoni) of the overall volume of deposits kept at local banks and deposits of physical entities amount to 53.7 percent (2.1 billion somoni).

During the period from September 1, 2010 to September 1, 2011, the weighted interest rate on deposits in national currency amounted to 15.2 percent and the weighted interest rate on the foreign currency deposits amounted to 15.03 percent, the source said.
