Prices of basic food products in Dushanbe reportedly lower than in the majority of CIS capitals

DUSHANBE, December 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Prices of basic food products in Dushanbe are lower than in the majority of CIS capital cities, Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said.

According to him, the price of one kilogram of beef in Dushanbe is lower: by 59 percent than in Baku, Azerbaijan; 40 percent than in Moscow, Russia; 27.3 percent than in Astana, Kazakhstan; 6.5 percent than in Yerevan, Armenia; and 1.6 percent than in Minsk, Belarus.

The price of one liter of vegetable oil in Dushanbe is 9.50 somoni, which is lower: by 29.6 percent than in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; 21.4 percent than in Astana; 19.8 percent than in Moscow; 13.4 percent than in Baku, 11.2 percent than in Yerevan; and 2.9 percent than in Minsk.

One kilogram of sugar in Dushanbe costs 2.70 somoni, which is lower: by 48.5 percent than in Bishkek; 33.3 percent than in Astana; 32.2 percent than in Moscow; 30.7 percent than in Baku; 1.5 percent than in Yerevan and 20.2 percent than in Minsk.    

The wheat flour prices in Dushanbe are also lower than in other CIS capitals.  Thus, the price of one kilogram of the highest grade flour in Dushanbe is 2.70 somoni, which is lower: by 57.4 percent than in Yerevan; 51.1 percent than in Astana; 34.1 percent than in Baku; 27.4 percent than in Bishkek; 26.3 percent than in Moscow; and 5.6 percent than in Minsk.  

The prices of vegetables and milk products on Dushanbe’s markets are also lower than in the majority of the CIS capitals, the spokesman said.
