DUSHANBE, December 16, 2008, Asia-Plus — President Emomali Rahmon will attend an informal CIS summit that will be held at the Kazakh resort town Borovoi (Akmola region) on December 19., according to the Tajik MFA information department.
In the meantime, Russia’s RIA Novosti cited the Kazakh MFA spokesman Yerzhan Eshikbayev as saying that heads of state of Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan had been invited to attend the summit.
“The presidents are expected to exchange views on topical issues related to regional cooperation and the global financial crisis, and consider possible measures to counter effects of the global crisis,” Eshikbayev was quoted as saying.
According to him, the heads of states will also discuss the present situation in the region connected with military-political security and fight against challenges and threats.
