DUSHANBE, November 24, 2011, Asia-Plus — The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) must react opportunely to all Tajikistan-related events and protect national interests of the country.

President Emomali Rahmon, who is also chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, remarked this during an address to a meeting of the board of the Central Executive Committee of the People’s Democratic Party that took place in Dushanbe on November 23.

Emomali Rahmon expressed perplexity that some party officials are not able to bring the party’s goals and objectives to the people through media, the source in the PDP Central Executive Committee said.

The board reportedly discussed activities of PDP’s faction in the lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament as well as its groups in local legislatures.  The board also considered issues related to work of parliamentarians with voters.

Founded in 1994, the People’s Democratic Party of Tajikistan is the biggest political party in Tajikistan.  Its chairman is President Emomali Rahmon.  It is the largest party, boasting more than 150,000 registered members.  The official newspaper of the party is

The party controls some 70 percent of seats in the lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of the parliament and the overwhelming majority of members of local councils are members of the ruling party.
