Iranian foreign minister to pay official visit to Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, March 6, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi arrives in Tajikistan on March 7 on a three-day official visit, a well-informed source in the Tajik government told Asia-Plus today.

During his stay in Dushanbe, Ali Akbar Salehi is scheduled to hold talks with his Tajik counterpart Hamrokhon Zarifi and President Emomali Rahmon.

Iranian minister’s discussion with high-ranking Tajik state officials will focus on economic cooperation between the two countries, introduction of the second unit of the Sangtuda-2 hydroelectric power plant (HPP) into operation, completion of the construction of the Istiqlol Tunnel and the beginning of construction of the Ayni HPP on the Zarafshon River in northern Tajikistan, the source said.

We will recall that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will visit Tajikistan this month to attend celebrations dedicated to the International Navrouz Day.
