DUSHANBE, November 28, 2008, Asia-Plus  – Over the first ten months of this year, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and China has been estimated at 720 million US dollars, Chairman Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) Sharif Said remarked at a meeting with Chinese Trade Counselor Wan Chungan (phonetically spelled) in Dushanbe on November 26.

During the meeting, it was noted that China supported development of Tajikistan’s economy through investing in construction of power grids, roads and other branches of the Tajik economy.

The sides noted that China’s national exhibition that had been held in Dushanbe this year had given a new impulse to further expansion of economic cooperation between Tajikistan and China.  Agreements and contracts for a total of more than 190 million US dollars have been signed on sidelines of the exhibition.

Speaking at the meeting, Chinese Trade Counselor noted that over the past two years trade between the two countries has doubled annually.

Said and Wan agreed that Tajikistan and China had good potentials for further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial economic cooperation that would allow them to increase the two-way trade to 1 billion US dollars in 2009.  Both sides vowed to boost bilateral trade, the CCI press service said.
