DUSHANBE, November 24, 2008, Asia-Plus – Officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) have stopped activity of a large drug gang that had been active in districts of the Hissor Valley, central Tajikistan for a long time.
The source at a DCA said that an operation carried out by officers from the counternarcotics agency for some three months led to the arrest of a number of active members of the gang in Hissor on November 21.
20 packages of narcotic drug that tested positive to heroin weighing more than 18 kilograms were confiscated from them.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against them and an investigation is under way.
Over the first ten months of this year, the DCA officers have seized 1,260 kilograms of drugs, which is 318 kilograms or 33.8 percent more than in the same period of last year.
