DUSHANBE, June 16, 2012, Asia-Plus — Tajik Railways has decided to reduce the number of train journeys from Dushanbe to Moscow and suspend the train-journey from Khujand, the capital of the Tajik northern Sughd province to Saratov (Russia).
A source at the Tajik Railways says the decision is connected with a decrease in passenger traffic on these routes.
The triple-weekly service on the rail route from Dushanbe to Moscow will be reduced to twice a week beginning on June 19, the source said.
As far as the train journey from Khujand to Saratov is concerned it will be suspended beginning on June 23, he noted, adding that the rail schedule will change as soon as the passenger traffic volume increases.
We will recall that at present Tajik Railways offers three routes to the Russian Federation (Dushanbe-Moscow, Kulob-Moscow, and Khujand-Saratov) and two domestic routes (Dushanbe-Konibodom and Dushanbe-Pakhtaobod).
