Government discusses GBAO development program

DUSHANBE, July 9, 2012, Asia-Plus — The government has considered issues related to socioeconomic development of Gorno Badakhshan.

A government session, presided over by President Emomali Rahmon, took place on July 7.

The president’s official website reports the meeting participants included senior representatives from the government, president’s offices and relevant ministries and committees and they discussed ways to remove effects of natural disasters that hit the region this year.

In this connection, the meeting made a decision to allocate funds for rehabilitation of the flood protection embankment in the area and the purchase of appropriate equipment.

President Rahmon ordered heads of relevant ministries to speed up work on construction of administrative buildings, educational, cultural and social facilities in Gorno Badakhshan as well as construction of roads and bridges and six small hydropower plants in the region.
