KULOB, November 19, 2008, Asia-Plus — The Republican Center for Socioeconomic Education and Development conducted a roundtable in Kulob on November 18.
The meeting participants included representatives of political parties, NGOs and local entrepreneurs.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Center expert also leader of the Social-Democratic Party (SDPT) Rahmatillo Zoirov said that the meeting was part of the “Regional Policy as Part of National Strategy” project, which is sponsored by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
According to him, one of the most important problems the country has faced since the beginning of economic reforms “is intensification of differentiation (skewness) of regions.”
“The national economic policy conducted in our country is not yet aimed at removing regional disproportions and improper attention is paid to issues related to the state regulation of regional development, while these problems are the key ones,” the expert said.
