Imomnazarov killed in grenade blast, says Tajik chief prosecutor’s office

DUSHANBE, August 23, 2012, Asia-Plus – According to a statement released by the Prosecutor-General’s Office Wednesday evening, Imomnazar Imomnazarov was killed in a grenade explosion in his home in Khorog at 4:00 am of August 22.

A special group has been set up to investigate the incident.  The group is currently in Khorog, the statement said.

Meanwhile, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reported on August 22 that the Russian news agency ITAR-ASS cited a representative of the GBAO police directorate as saying that Imomnazarov’s home was attacked at 3:30 am local time on August 22, and that neighbors heard the sound of a grenade explosion followed by shooting from automatic weapons.

ITAR-TASS also reported that Imomnazarov’s brother and several other people in the building were wounded and brought to a local hospital.

The GBAO police representative cited by ITAR-TASS denied that government forces were involved in the attack on Imomnazarov’s home.
