Tajikistan reportedly doubles coal production

DUSHANBE, September 27, 2012, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan has produced some 300,000 tons of coal over the first nine months of this year, which is 125,000 tons or 75 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).

More than 305,000 tons of coal have been delivered over the report period, which is 171,000 tons more than in January-September last year, an official source at a MoEI said.

According to him, the coal has been delivered, first of all, to educational and medical facilities.

Tajik Aluminum Company (TALCO) has reportedly purchased more than 10,000 tons of coal, the glass works based in the northern city of Qairoqqum – 8,300 tons, and the cement plant located in the city of Sarband, Khatlon province – 700 tons.

Currently there are some 1,700 coal-selling outlets in Tajikistan.  In Tajikistan, coal comes mainly from the following coalfields: Fon-Yaghnob; Vuromun; Shurob; Ziddi, Sayod, and Shouroobod.
