QURGHON TEPPA, January 26, Asia-Plus  — According to information from the Khatlon police directorate, 111 cases of suicide attempts were registered in Khatlon Province in 2005. 

“Only in 31 cases of them, suicide agents were survived,” said the source, “Of those who committed suicide or attempted to commit suicide, 57 were men and 54 were women.”  According to the Asia-Plus interlocutor, the suicide agents most committed suicide by self-immolation or self-hanging.    

The source has also told Asia-Plus that the first case of suicide this year was registered in Vose District, where the 20-year-old Jamoliddin Mirzoyev, who had intellectual disabilities, hanged himself.   

Local experts say the suicides most were motivated by family and economic problems.
