DUSAHNBE, May 26, Asia-Plus — A drug trafficker was detained when he was illegally crossing the border river in the Farkhor district (Khatlon province) late Wednesday [May 24], according to information from Tajik border service.

The source says the detainee proved to be 27-year-old Afghan citizen Sohibnazar valadi Mingami.  More than 28 kilograms of heroin and 11 kilograms of cannabis were confiscated from him.  

On the same day, a joint operation by Tajik border troops and officers from the Interior Ministry department combating drug trafficking (drug police) at the Tajik-Afghan border in Farkhor led to arrest another Afghan drug trafficker.  A 35-year-old Afghan Fazliddin valadi Alamboy was detained at the Tajik-Afghan border near the

.  A large consignment of drugs, including more than 62 kilograms of heroin and 22 kilograms of cannabis, was confiscated from him.  

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against both drug traffickers, and an investigation is under way.  

Besides, a large arms cache was discovered in a joint operation carried out by Tajik border troops in cooperation with officers from the Ministry of Security in the Shuroobod district (Khatlon province) on May 23.  12 boxes containing 4,080 bullets of different caliber were extracted from the hide.
