DUSHANBE, June 13, Asia-Plus – United Nations Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs, Ibrahim Gambari, is arriving in Dushanbe today evening for a three-day working visit, according to information from the United Nations Tajikistan Office of Peace Building (UNTOP).

by invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov. During his staying in Dushanbe Mr. Ibrahim Gambari is supposed to hold talks with a number of high-ranking Tajik state officials as well as public figures to discuss issues related to prospects of further expansion of cooperation between the United Nations and
Tajikistan
.
According to the source, Ibrahim Gambari intends to hold talks with Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov, Chairman of the Committee for Protection of the State Border of Tajikistan Saydami Zuhurov, First Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Abdulmajid Dostiyev, member of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) Hoji Akbar Turajonzoda, Tajikistan’s Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) head Said Abdullo Nuri as well as heads of the UN agencies active in Tajikistan.
The talks are supposed to focus on problems of development of trade and economic relations and trans-border cooperation, fight against religious extremism, organized crime, terrorism and drug trafficking in the region. A special attention will be paid to

’s experience in settling inter-Tajik conflict and peace-building process in the country.
During his visit to Tajikistan Ibrahim Gambari will also visit the Hissor Fortress and the National Museum of Antiquities in
Dushanbe
. On completion of the visit on June 16, the United Nations Under-Secretary General for Political Affairs will leave
Dushanbe
for the Kazakh city of
Almaty
