DUSHANBE, June 15, Asia-Plus — Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is supposed to pay an official visit to Tajikistan in early July this year., according to information from the president’s office.   

The source says talks in Tajikistan are due to focus on prospects of further expansion of trade and economic cooperation between Tajikistan and Iran.  Ahmadinjead’s visit to Tajikistan is expected to result in signing of a number of cooperation agreements.  

According to the source, a group of Iranian businessmen will accompany Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on his visit to Tajikistan.  The will conduct a series of negotiations with Tajik businesspeople and senior representatives from the country’s economic sector to discuss ways to boost bilateral economic cooperation between the two countries and launch joint ventures in Tajikistan.

According figures provided by the Committee for Statistics, a trade turnover between Tajikistan and Iran in January-May this year has amounted to 29.7778 million U.S. dollars, which is 121.5 percent of the level of January-May 2005.  Tajikistan exports to Iran have amounted to US$18.6429 million over the same five-month period.  Imports from Iran to Tajikistan in January-May this year have amounted to US$11.1349 million.
