DUSHANBE, June 30, Asia-Plus — Japan’s “Mitsubishi Corporation” (MC) is currently considering the issue of awarding a US$9 million grant to Tajikistan for improvement of the water supply system in Dushanbe, according to information from “Dushanbe Vodokanal” (DVK or Dushanbe’s municipal waterworks).
The DVK source says the municipal waterworks administration and visiting MC General Manager Masatoshi Ichi negotiated this issue in
Dushanbe
on June 22.
The MC experts will familiarize themselves with the
Dushanbe
water supply project run by German’s WVV over the last three years in order to avoid duplication, according to the source. “
Japan
’s company also intends to allot funds for other goals as well, but it sill premature to give details,” said the Asia-Plus, “They will study the project and prepare a detailed report for
Japan
’s Government.”
Iran
’s “Ab-e Poui” has also shown interest in participation in this project. On June 27, Deputy Dushanbe Mayor, Masaid Homidov, met in
Dushanbe
with Mr. Wahhab Nasser Rejai, the director of the Iranian company. Iranian specialists submitted to the
Dushanbe
mayor’s office a detailed analysis of the problem of the water supply system in
Dushanbe
. We will recall that the Iranian side expressed readiness to provide a grant of US$400,000 for the implementation of the project to enhance the water supply system in Tajik capital.
