DUSHANBE, August 11, Asia-Plus – A roundtable meeting to discuss a role of public associations in the development of civil society in Tajikistan opened at the “Kokhi Vahdat” State Complex in Dushanbe today morning.  

According to information from the OSCE Center in Dushanbe, the event, organized by the OSCE Center in Dushanbe in cooperation with the Social Partnership Club, has brought together about 70 representatives from state authorities, political parties, NGOs, ethnic minorities, international agencies and academic institutions.

“Participants at the event are focusing on the problems of civil society in Tajikistan, including inadequate coordination of their efforts with state authorities, and suggest ways to ensure broader co-operation with state institutions,” the source noted.

Speakers at the event include Karomatullo Olimov, State Adviser to the Tajik President for Social Development and Public Relations, and Bernard Rouault, Political Officer, OSCE Center in Dushanbe.

The event is part of the OSCE-supported “Social Partnership Club” project, a forum of dialogue between the authorities and the civil society.
