DUSHANBE, August 11, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources and Afghanistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources are supposed to sing a cooperation agreement in near future, according to information from the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources press service.

Ms. Nazira Qalandarbekova, a spokeswoman for the Tajik ministry of land reclamation and water resources, has told Asia-Plus that that issue was discussed in Dushanbe during a recent meeting of Tajik Minister of Land Reclamation and Water Resources, Abdulqohir Nazirov, with visiting Deputy Afghan Energy and Water Resources Minister, Kamoliddin Nizomi.  According to Ms. Qalandarbekova, the Afghan delegation led by Nizomi included representatives from the Afghan ministry of energy as well as representatives from the U.S. embassies in Dushanbe in Kabul.  The Afghan delegation visited Tajikistan in the beginning of this week, according to her.    

In the course of the talks the Tajik Mr. Abdulqohir Nazirov noted that Tajikistan was ready to provide assistance in training of personnel for Afghan energy and water resources sector.  The Tajik minister also proposed to consider the possibility of a joint construction of a plant on production of water pipes in the territory of one of the two countries.  

Ms. Qalandarbekova also added that during its stay in Tajikistan the Afghan delegation visited some facilities of the Tajik Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources, Norak and Baipaza hydroelectric power stations, as well as the unit for implementation of projects aimed at enhancement of provision of the Tajik population with safe drinking water, development of new lands in mountain areas, and enhancement of Tajikistan agrarian sector.
