DUSHANBE, August 11, Asia-Plus — Prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in the fields such as industry and energy are the aims of the sixth session of Tajik-Kyrgyz intergovernmental commission for economic and trade cooperation, which opened in Dushanbe today morning.  

According to information from the Ministry of Economy and Trade, more than 10 issues related to cooperation between the two countries in rational use of water resources in the Central Asian region, strengthening of environmental protection, and development of regional cooperation between small mountain countries, have been tabled to the session’s agenda.    

Kyrgyzstan’s Minister of Transport Nurlan Suleymanov is heading the Kyrgyz delegation participating in the session’s work.  The source says Tajikistan’s intends to submit or consideration of the Kyrgyz side a number of projects for cooperation in the areas such as industry and energy.  The session is expected to end with signing of a protocol of cooperation.  

According to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan over the first six months of this year has valued at US$18,216,500, which 97 percent more compared to the same period of 2005.  Tajikistan’s exports to Kyrgyzstan have been estimated at US$1.3 million, and Tajikistan’s imports from Kyrgyzstan have been estimated at US$16.8 million.
