DUSAHNBE, August 26, Asia-Plus  — On August 22, Tajik Ambassador to Russia Safar Safarov and Ambassador of the Republic of Guatemala to Russia Lars Pira (phonetically spelled) signed in Moscow a joint statement on establishment of diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Guatemala.   

According to Muhammad Egamzod, press secretary of the Tajik Embassy in Moscow, following the statement-signing ceremony Mr. Pira noted that Tajikistan and Guatemala made an important move towards expansion of bilateral cooperation.  “Guatemala hopes for partnership and interaction with Tajikistan in many spheres, including food industry and tourism,” Mr. Lars Pira was quoted as saying.   

For his part, Safar Safarov briefed Mr. Pira on the latest foreign policy’s initiatives of Tajikistan and events to be held to mark the 15

th

anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence, according to Egamzod.  “Tajik Ambassador noted that Tajikistan counts on mutual interest of Guatemala in boosting trade and economic cooperation with Tajikistan that would promote mutual strengthening of positions on international arena,” Mr. Egamzod noted.
