DUSHANBE, September 6, Asia-Plus – A joint operation carried out by officers from Tajik drug-control office in Afghanistan and Afghan special services yesterday led to the seizure of some 120 kilograms of heroin in one of Afghan villages bordering on the Tajik province of Khatlon.

According to information from Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency (DCA), this bulk of drugs was intended for transporting to the Russian Federation via the territory of Tajikistan.  “Several drug dealers having international contacts were arrested,” the source said.

Since the beginning of the year, officers from the DCA and Afghan special services have carried out five joint operations that led to the seizure of more than 250 kilograms of heroin.

We will recall that last May, a local office of Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency was opened in the northern Afghan city of Kunduz.  Experts identify northeastern Afghanistan as a significant producer of opium.
