DUSHANBE, September 21, Asia-Plus – “However that may be, the Roghun hydroelectric power plant in Tajikistan will be built by Russia,” Russian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ramazan Abdulatipov remarked at Russian-Tajik Slavic University in Dushanbe yesterday.
Abdulatipov came to the university to deliver a public lecture on state and prospects of relationships between the Russian Federation and Tajikistan.
On the cooperation between the two countries in development of Tajikistan’s energy sector, the ambassador stressed that the Tajik side and “Russian Aluminum” (RusAl) have to arrive at a reasonable compromise on the issue of the construction of the Roghun, and “this compromise should meets both national interests of Tajikistan and commercial interests of the Russian company.”
“This issue was discussed at a meeting of President Rahmonov with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov in Dushanbe recently,” Abdulatipov said, noting that experts will prepare technical, and financial studies at their next meeting set for late October.
On the conclusion, Abdulatipov hailed a good progress and high level of the construction of Sangtuda-1 hydropower plant in Tajikistan, which is also being built under financial support of Russia.
