DUSHANBE, October 2, Asia-Plus — A decision by the Ministry of Justice to register Masoud Sobirov as the official leader of the Democratic Party (DPT) is illegal, Shokirjon Hakimov, lawyer also deputy head of the Social-Democratic Party (SDPT), said in his interview with Asia-Plus today.

“In this case, we are witnesses of dirty political technologies, when the authorities pursuing their own goals are interested in registration of illegal candidate for president,” said Hakimov, “It will seriously affect development of democratic processes in Tajikistan.”

On the election process as a whole, Shokirjon Hakimov stressed that it does not stand up to any criticism.  “Under the pretext of holding allegedly alternative election the government political technologists have overstepped all possible limits provided for by the Constitution and laws of the country,” Hakimov said, adding that consequences of such elections will not promote development of political culture in Tajik society.
